This work by Dr. Oba T’Shaka is an inquiry into some long neglected dimensions of African culture, history and cosmology. The dilemma of African people in the world is that they are lost from their traditional and historical moorings. There is now a need for them to make a serious study of themselves in order for them to understand the world that they live in and the kind of world they must shape for their children.

A ‘major disturbance’ broke out August 21 at San Quentin Prison after two convicts, one of them George Jackson (R), a Soledad Brother, tried to escape from their rock-walled enclosure. Jackson was killed in the escape attempt, the other prisoner gave up and was recaptured. The Soledad Brothers are three black convicts charged with slaying a guard at the Soledad State Prison in January 1970. They are (L-R): Fleeta Drumgo, 26; John W. Cluchette, 28; and Jackson, 29.
